Working under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, the Railway Recruitment Board or RRB Chennai is responsible for providing job opportunities for aspirants in the working and supervisory staff needed at Chennai, Salem and Tiruchirappalli divisions, integral coach factory, Chennai and the HQ of southern railways at Chennai. Recruitment for Group C jobs is conducted by the RRB Chennai.
The RRB Chennai advertises the job openings through employment news, other leading vernacular dailies, and the internet. The selection procedure involves inviting applications from aspirants for the respective jobs. These applications are scrutinized on the basis of their eligibility. The candidates have to appear for a written exam. Most of the jobs do not call for an interview after the written exam. However, in some cases, the second stage calls for an interview and a psychological test as well.

The written exam includes questions on mathematics, general intelligence and reasoning, general awareness and general science. The next stage of the exam is the CBT which includes questions on general awareness, physics, chemistry, basics of computer applications, basics of environment and pollution control and technical abilities.
