Spread in a sprawling campus of 260 acres, the Gujarat University was established in 1949 in Ahmedabad. The Governor of Gujarat is the chancellor of the University. www.gujaratuniversity.ac.in is the old website of the university. The university now functions out of its new portal at www.gujaratuniversity.org.in

Gujarat University offers a variety of courses under it which include undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses, doctoral courses, master of Philosophy, diploma courses, certificate courses, 5 years integrated courses and study abroad programs. The University offers a total of 334 courses in 15 streams and 80 specializations in all.
Admission to Gujarat University is done on the basis of merit secured in the qualifying exam. The university conducts admissions from the month of June of the academic session until specified by the university. the tentative dates of admission are as follows:
Date of issue of admission form: 3rd week of June
Declaration of 1st merit list: 3rd to 4th week of June
Commencement of new academic session: July
- The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination as specified by the University from a recognized board. This includes Gujarat Board, CBSE, NIOS, ICSE, IB
- The candidate must have secured merit in accordance with the cut off list declared by the Gujarat University.
- If a candidate has come from any other board other than CBSE and Gujarat will have to submit a Provisional Eligibility Certificate (PEC0 from Gujarat University before registration.
- A candidate who has passed the qualifying examination after appearing in the supplementary examination conducted by the Board will be eligible for admission in the current academic year on vacant seats declared.
