UGC Net Exam Pattern:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is responsible for conducting the National Eligibility Test (NET) exam across the country for hundreds of eligible candidates. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC NET exam on behalf of the UGC. The UGC NET Exam is conducted to choose eligible candidates as Assistant Professor/ Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in various Universities and colleges in India. The UGC NET exam pattern helps candidates prepare meticulously for the exam.

Here are the details of the UGC NET exam pattern:

The UGC NET exam is held twice a year in February for the June session and in August for the December session.

Date of release of the application for June session: 16th March 2020

The last date to submit an application for June session: 16th April 2020

Date of UGC NET exam June session: 15th to 20th June 2020

Date of release of an application for December session:  1st week of September 2020

The last date to submit an application for December session: last week of September 2020

Date of UGC NET exam December session: 3rd week of December 2020

Eligibility criteria:

  • The candidate must possess a Master’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Candidates who are appearing for the final year of the Master’s program are also eligible to apply.
  • The candidate must be at least 28 years to be eligible to appear for UGC NET exam.
  • There is no prescribed maximum age limit for the assistant Professor.
  • The candidate must not exceed 30 years of age as on 1st January 2020 for the UGC NET exam.  
  • Age relaxation are as per the guidelines laid down by the Government of India. 
  • Candidates must obtain at least 55% marks in the UGC NET Exam.

UGC NET Exam pattern:

  • The UGC NET exam will consist of total 2 papers.
  • The UGC NET exam is a computer based online exam.
  • The medium of the exam is Hindi or English.
  • The exam will consist of MCQ (multiple choice objective questions)
  • The total number of questions asked in Paper 1 and 2 is 150.
  • The weightage of the exam is as follows:
  • Paper 1: 100 marks
  • Paper 2: 200 marks
  • The marking scheme is as follows:
  • For Every Correct answer: +2marks
  • For Every There is no negative marking in the exam.
