TNPSC Exam Pattern:

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is responsible for conducting recruitment drives for various vacancies in the state government machinery. The TNPSC has released a notification for the recruitment of Group 1 Combined Civil Services Examination. The TNPSC Exam pattern has been released along with the syllabus for a systematic preparation.

Here are the details of the TNPSC exam pattern:

Date of start of registration of application: 20th January 2020

Last date to submit completed application: 19th February 2020

Date of release of admit card for prelims: February 2020

Date of prelims exam: 5th April 2020

TNPSC has released a notification for the recruitment to the following posts:

  • Deputy Collector
  • Deputy Superintendent of Police
  • Assistant Commissioner – Commercial Taxes
  • Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies
  • Assistant Director of Rural Development
  • District Officer – Fire and Rescue Services.

The selection procedure for TNPSC exam comprises of 2 stages which include:

  • Preliminary exam
  • Main exam and interview

Preliminary exam

  • The exam is an objective examination.
  • The duration of the exam is 3 hours/ 180 minutes.
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions.
  • The exam comprises of 2 sections with a total of 200 questions.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 300 marks.
  • The marking scheme of the exam does not have any negative marking.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for the prelims is 120 marks for open category and 90 for other categories.

Main exam

  • The main exam is a pen and paper based exam.
  • The exam consists of subjective and descriptive questions.
  • The exam comprises of 3 papers each.
  • The duration of the exam is 3 hours for each paper.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 750 marks, where each paper is of 250 marks each.
  • The candidate must secure a minimum of 340 marks in the open category and 255 for other categories to qualify the main exam.
