Supreme Court On 75% Attendance

Recently, there are many rumors that are being circulated on social media platforms about the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE eliminating the attendance criteria of mandatory 75 percent attendance and this has created confusion among all the stakeholders. Supreme Court On 75% Attendance.

It even gave a shock to officials of Visvesvararya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi as they saw the circular on WhatsApp. Prof Jagannath Reddy, Registrar at VTU, spoke to the new Indian Express, “Even I received it on my WhatsApp and have been getting calls from many, including principals of affiliated colleges. We need to verify this with the authorities.”

The authorities at AICTE has issued a clarification, that stated, “It was a fake circular and there is no such decision or proposal of scrapping 75% attendance and introducing vocational projects.”

The circular that was spread was the replica of the original one. Starting from the logo of AICTE to the signatures of the officials. And the VTU authorities and principals of engineering colleges suspect it to be the handiwork of some mischievous students.

Apparently, the fake circular that was spread all over the social media platforms read, “Considering the growing unemployment of engineering graduates, which has become a serious issue, and according to data from national sample survey office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and AICTE carried out in 2017, about 57.43% of engineering students from various technical institutions are unemployed. Considering this, AICTE has decided to scrap the 75 per cent mandatory attendance and introduce vocational projects.”

AICTE is now planning to lodge a complaint against the fake circular in the Cyber Crime Cell of Delhi Police. The ‘fake circular’ in question which was addressed to ‘all Directors/Principals of AICTE approved institutions’ was named ‘Scrapping of 75% Attendance Rule and introducing Vocational Projects’.

A supreme court judgment is been followed and mandatory attendance of 75 per cent or above has been introduced in education systems at all levels.
