SSC CGL Exam Pattern:

The Staff Selection Commission is responsible for conducting the Combined Graduate level (CGL) examination for recruitment of personnel I various Government offices and departments. The SSC CGL selection procedure is done in 4 stages. The SSC CGL Exam pattern will help candidates prepare in a systematic manner for the exam.

Here are the details of the SSC CGL exam pattern:

The SSC CGL exam comprises of the following 4 stages, these include:

  • Tier 1
  • Tier 2
  • Tier 3
  • Tier 4

Tier 1

  • The Tier 1 is a computer based online exam.
  • The exam consists of MCQ (multiple choice objective questions).
  • The total number of questions asked are 100.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 200 marks.
  • The exam consists of total of 4 sections.
  • The duration of the exam is 1 hour or 60 minutes.
  • The marking scheme includes negative marking.
  • For every Incorrect answer: -0.50 marks will be deducted.

Tier 2

  • The SSC CGL Tier 2 exam is a computer based online exam.
  • The exam consists of MCQ (multiple choice objective questions).
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours or 120 minutes for each paper.
  • The exam consists of total of 4 sections.
  • The marking scheme includes negative marking.
  • For every Incorrect answer: -0.25 marks will be deducted.

Tier 3

  • The exam is a pen and paper based offline test.
  • The exam consists of descriptive/ subjective questions.
  • The medium of the paper is Hindi or English.
  • The duration of the paper is 1 hour or 60 minutes.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 100 marks.

Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (Writing of Essay, Precis, Letter, Application etc.) 100 marks 1 hour or 60 minutes

Tier 4

  • The Tier 4 exam is a Computer skill test.
  • The test includes 2 stages which are as follows:
  • DEST: The candidate must type 2000 words in 15 minutes in English on the computer.
  • CPT: The candidate’s proficiency is checked in word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and generation of slides.
