NTSE Exam Pattern:

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for students of class 10th. Candidates who secure high merit in the NTSE exam are offered a variety of scholarships in Science and Social Science streams. There are a total of 200 scholarships that are awarded under the NTSE. The NTSE exam pattern helps students preparing for the exam in a meticulous manner.

The NTSE exam is conducted in 2 stages, these include the following:

  • 1st stage: The exam is conducted by the individual state and union territories education departments.
  • 2nd stage: The exam is conducted at an all India level by NCERT.

NTSE exam pattern:

  • The NTSE exam has a uniform pattern for both the stages, i.e. at state level and national level.
  • The NTSE exam is a pen and paper based offline examination.
  • Candidates will be given OMR sheets to mark the answers to the questions asked. 
  • The exam consists of 2 parts. These include the following:
  • Part 1: Mental Ability Test (MAT)
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions.
  • The total number of questions asked is 100.
  • The duration of the test is 2 hours/ 120 minutes.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 100 marks.
  • The marking scheme is as follows:
  • Correct answer: + 1 marks
  • There is no negative marking
  • Part 2: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions.
  • The exam consists of 3 sections which include Science, Maths and Social Science.
  • The total number of questions asked is 100.
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours/ 120 minutes.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 100 marks.
  • The medium of the exam is Assamese/ Bangla/ English/ Gujarati/ Hindi/ Kannada/ Marathi/ Malayalam/ Odia/ Punjabi/ Tamil/ Telugu/ Urdu.
  • The candidate must mention the medium of the exam in the application form.
