The National Institute of Design was established in 1961 and is an internationally acclaimed as the best for industrial, textile, communication and IT integrated design. NID is governed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. NID was declared an “Institution of National Importance in 2014. The institute conducts various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in an integrated manner. The NID has 3 campuses, the main campus in Ahmedabad, and two others in Gandhinagar and Bangalore. Here are the details of the National Institute of Design admissions:


  • Bachelor of Design (B.Des)
  • Master of Design (M.Des)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Design
  • Graduate Diploma Program in Design GDPD

Last date to submit completed application online: 7th November 2019 by 200pm.

Last date to submit a completed application online for B.Des / GDPD and M.Des with late fees: 13th November 2019 by 200pm.

Admission procedure:

  • The interested candidate must log in to the official website at
  • The candidate must sign up with details like name, nationality, date of birth, email, mobile number, category, disability if any.
  • After the sign-up, the candidate will be given a unique login ID and password.
  • Using the unique login ID and password the candidate must fill the application form with all the personal and educational details along with the work experience if required.
  • Once the candidate fills the application form, he must upload the prescribed documents that include the signature, photograph, copy of passport, caste/PwD certificate.
  • The candidate must pay the prescribed fee online or through a demand draft and keep a copy of the application form.
  • The candidate must appear for an entrance exam called the Design Aptitude Test or DAT for admission to B.Des and M.Des.
  • DAT is conducted in 2 stages the prelims and the mains.

General and OBC-NCL Category: 2000/-

SC/ST/PWD: 1000/-

Overseas Candidates: 3000/-
