Joining the Indian naval Academy can be accomplished through the following methods. One is through NDA, CDSE, B.Tech entry and other graduate entries.
- Entry through NDA/NA: The entry to NDA is for male candidates only between the age group of 16 ½ years to 19 ½ years of age. The candidate must have PCM at class 12th. Candidates have to appear for a common entrance exam for NDA where all undergo joint training at NDA, Khadakwasla, Pune. After completing 3 years of training at NDA the cadets proceed to the NAVAC for a training of one year. Cadets can choose between Naval Architecture / Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication engineering. After completion of training at NAVAC, the cadets pass out as Sub Lieutenants of the Indian Navy.
- Entry through 10+2 B.Tech: The candidates must apply for the entry mode. SSB calls are made to the candidate directly if the candidate has secured a percentage above the cut off marks in class 12th with PCM. Selected candidates undergo a four-year training for B.Tech in Mechanical/Electronics & Communications engineering at the NAVAC.
- Entry through CDSE: candidates must have completed B.Sc with Mathematics and Physics as main subjects or BE for gaining Indian Naval Academy admission. The candidates must appear for an entrance exam. Shortlisted candidates are called for an SSB interview and medical test.
- The entry of other Graduates: The entry to the naval academy is direct. Interested candidates must apply and shortlisted candidates are called directly for SSB on the basis of the percentage secured in the qualifying exam.
The NAVAC or the Naval Academy was established in 1969 and it moved base to its new campus at Ezhimala in 2009. Every year 1200 cadets are chosen to be transformed into naval officers at the NAVAC through the Indian Naval Academy admissions 2019.
