Candidates aiming to join Indian Air Force as Officers must appear for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) conducted twice a year by the IAF. Selected candidates have to undergo rigorous training at the Air Force Academy Dundigul in either the flying branch or ground duty (technical and non-technical) branch.

Date of start of registration of application: 15th June 2020

Last date to submit completed application: 14th July 2020

Date of release of AFCAT admit card: After 4th September 2020

Date of AFCAT exam: 19th and 20th September 2020

Application fee:

  • All candidates must pay an application fee of 250/-
  • The application fee must be paid online through credit or debit card or other net banking options.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Age: The candidate must be at least 20 years of age and must not exceed 24 years for the flying branch and 26 years for the ground duty branch.
  • Educational qualification:

Flying branch The candidate must have passed class 12th from a recognized board with at least 50% marks and Maths and Physics as compulsory subjectsThe candidate must have passed 3 year graduation with at least 60% marks Or The candidate must possess a 4 year B.E/ B.Tech with at least 60% marks Or The candidate must have passed the section A and B exam of the Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers or Aeronautical Society of India with minimum 60% marks.
Ground Duty Technical branch The candidate must have passed class 12th with at least 50% and Maths and Physics as compulsory subjectsThe candidate must have completed 4 year graduation/ integrated post-graduation in Engineering/ Technology Or The candidate must have passed A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers or Aeronautical Society of India with minimum 60% marks
Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch Administration                       Education       Metrology   The candidate must have passed class 12th with at least 50% marks and Maths and Physics as compulsory subjects Or The candidate must have passed A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers or Aeronautical Society of India with minimum 60% marksThe candidate must have passed class 12th and also completed post-graduation with at least 50% marks.The candidate must possess post graduate degree in Science/Maths/Computer Applications/Statistics/Geography/Applied Physics/Oceanography/Agricultural Meteorology/Ecology & Environment/Meteorology/Geophysics/ Environmental Biology with minimum 50% marks

 Selection process:

  • The candidate must appear for an entrance exam, psychological test and medical examination.
  • The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the merit secured in the AFCAT and AFSB test.
