Aadhar card consists of a unique 12-digit number that is generated after scanning the person’s fingerprints and retina. The card can be attained only after the approval of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The Unique Identification Authority of India is the one who issues both Aadhaar number and Aadhaar card to the people of the country. It provides many facilities online for those who own an Aadhaar card or have Aadhar number. Aadhar card is considered as a very powerful identity card by the government. The government of India has made the Aadhar card a very crucial document. It has made compulsory for all the citizens of India to link the aadhar card with all the other documents in the country like PAN card, mobile number and many more. For this is it is very important to update your Aadhar card.
Your Aadhar card shall be up to date in order to avoid difficulties. If you have recently got married and changed your name or if there is a mistake in your name, you can apply for the card name change/name correction/surname change. The change is possible through both online as well as offline methods. It is to be noted that correction or updating the name for Aadhar card is only possible for a maximum 4 times. This discourages the holder of Aadhar card or the holder of 12- digit number to do any silly mistake and be precise with the update. Further for online update or correction of name/surname/or complete name, the Aadhar card holder’s mobile number shall be linked. The Holder will get the OTP (one-time password) for the verification process. If your mobile number is not linked with the Aadhar card then you can go for offline update od the name. It is also a simple process but might take a bit longer as compared to the online procedure. Spelling errors and other mistakes in your Aadhaar Card details can lead to many problems.
As you know the Government of India has made linking of Aadhar cards a mandatory task for all the citizens of the country. Linking PAN card to Aadhar card is no big deal. If your names or any demographic details do not match in the two the linking could not be possible. Which may further lead to inactive Aadhar. If there is a mismatch in your name, gender, date of birth on the documents you want to link with Aadhar, you may not be able to link the two. So, in order to avoid such issues, one must update the Aadhar card with all the latest information. There are two methods to update or correct the name in the Aadhar card. One is obviously the online method and the other one is the offline mode which includes going to the nearest enrolment centre and update, change or correct the name.
For the online method and when your mobile number is linked with Aadhar card, you must follow the following steps.
1) Go to the official website of unique identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
2) Enter your Aadhar number as well as the captcha.
3) You’ll receive an OTP to your registered mobile number.
4) Enter it and select your changes and upload necessary documents.
5) Note down URN number for future tracking status.
And if your mobile number is not linked with your Aadhar card or you wish to update, correct, change the name offline then you may visit the enrolment centre to update the name. You will be required to fill the offline from there. You will also be required to show the relevant documents along with submitting the form.
