GPSC Exam Pattern Detail You Might Want to Know About

GPSC Exam Pattern:

The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) is responsible for conducting the state civil services examination for eligible candidates. The GPSC exam pattern is based on the Civil Service Examination conducted by the UPSC. Candidates who will be selected after the completion of the selection procedure will fill up the various administrative positions in the state government machinery of Gujarat.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The Interested candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Candidates from other states are also eligible to apply based on a few conditions.
  • The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university. 
  • The candidate must be at least 20 years of age and must not exceed 35 years.
  • Age relaxation is as per the rules laid down by the state government of Gujarat.

GPSC Exam pattern:

The selection procedure consists of 3 stages. These include the following:

  • Preliminary exam
  • Main exam
  • Personality test/ Interview

Preliminary exam pattern:

  • The exam is a pen and paper based offline exam.
  • The exam consists of MCQ (multiple choice objective questions).
  • The candidate is provided with an OMR sheet to mark the answers of the questions asked.
  • The prelims consist of 2 papers, i.e. General Studies 1 and 2.
  • The weightage of the exam is 200 marks for each paper.
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours or 120 minutes for each paper.

Main exam pattern:

  • The main exam is a pen and paper based offline exam.
  • The exam consists of descriptive and subjective questions.
  • The exam comprises of 6 papers. These include the following:
  • General Gujarati
  • General English
  • Essay Paper
  • General studies 1
  • General studies 2
  • General studies 3
  • The duration of the exam is 3 hours/ 180 minutes for each paper.
  • The total weightage of the main exam is 900 marks.
