If you’re wondering who the hell is Mr. Bean then you’re that rare breed which needs to be introduced to the innocuous Mr. Bean. The indomitable Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean is a household name across the globe. Known for his silly gimmicks and complete absurdity, the character appeals to the young and adults alike. Mr. Bean has a massive fan following and newer additions keep joining in. Do-It-Yourself Mr. Bean was one of the noteworthy episodes of the first season of Mr. Bean. Aired on January 1994 it was the 9th episode of the series which was written by Robin Driscoll and Rowan Atkinson and directed by John Berkin.
The episode is all about when Mr. Bean hosts a New Year’s party with his friends Rupert and Hubert. The next day, Bean buys many tools and appliances to decorate and improve his apartment. He decides to paint his room by covering everything in the newspaper and using a firecracker to blow up a paint can and paint his room. Mr. Bean uses ingenious do-it-yourself techniques to entertain his guests. He uses newspaper to make party hats for his guests Rupert and Hubert. He makes wine which is a homemade concoction of vinegar and sugar and some twigs to nibble. Mr. Bean ends the party for a New Year sale the next day. He makes a dummy of himself that get him first in line to buy his brand new armchair, tools and appliances to decorate his room.
An out laugh riot the episode had everyone holding on to their stomach. His innovative way to paint his room is amazing too. He paints his room white, covers everything in the newspaper -including the loose doorknob!- and uses a firecracker to blow up a paint can. Do-It-Yourself gained a whole new perspective with Mr. Bean.
