Materials:

  • Marker
  • Large piece of paper
  • Needle nose pliers
  • 16 gauge steel wire
  • Heavy duty glue
  • Battery operated neon electroluminescent wire
  • Binder clips

Directions:

  • Take a marker and write a word you want on a large piece of paper. Tape a few sheets of paper together if the word is big.
  • Take needle-nose pliers and bend a 16-gauge steel wire into the shape of the word using the writing as a guide.  
  • Squeeze a heavy-duty glue on a few inches of the steel wire.
  • Carefully place the battery-operated neon electroluminescent wire on top of the glue, starting with the end without the battery pack.
  • Use binder clips to hold the neon wire in place until the glue dries.
  • Repeat till all of the steel wire is covered with neon wire. Remove the clips. Your DIY wall décor is ready to be hung.

DIY Letter Bookends

Materials:

  • Papier Mache letters, about 8″ tall
  • sand
  • Craft knife or blade
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scrapbook paper of your choice
  • Mod Podge & a brush

Directions:

  • Take a craft knife and carefully cut the front side of the Papier Mache letter off. Remove the front.

  •  Check the inside of the letter for any gaps and seal it with a hot glue gun.

  •  Once sealed, fill the body of your letter with sand to give it some weight.

  • Put the front of your letter back on using hot glue gun. Seal it as completely as possible with the glue.

  • Cover the letter with paper of choice by tracing each side of the letter in sections, and cutting out the pieces and gluing them to the letter. Leave a 1/2″ margin around each section to glue the excess down around the edges so that there wouldn’t be any visible gaps in the paper.

  • Once the letters have dried up completely give them a quick coat or two of Mod Podge for a glossy, sleek finish. Use a fan or sponge brush to apply it to all the surfaces evenly and completely.
  • Allow the letters to dry completely before placing them as bookends.
