Nowadays, many people dream of owning a vehicle. Be it a four-vehicle car or a two-wheeler. If you wish to own a car, there are some procedures and registration that one has to complete after buying a vehicle. It is to be noted that registration of the vehicle you own is as important as owning a vehicle. A Registration certificate or the RC is an official document. It is issued when the person wishes to registers his motor vehicle. If at any times the owner is found driving without an RC or a registration certificate then it is a punishable offense under the law. Even the parents will be punished if their minor child is found driving any vehicle without a driving license. RC acts as a proof that the vehicle which is registered with the department belongs to a person in whose name the certificate is issued. In India, it is important to register your vehicle after buying one. Therefore, it is important to have certain documents along with the vehicle.
There are two ways to get your vehicle registered. One is to do the registration process through an agent, it might cost you a bit, but all the procedures related to the registration will be completed without any worrying. The second method is by doing the registration process by yourself. It might take you a bit longer if you don’t know how to do it. But it will surely save your money. If you wish to do it by yourself then documents that you must collect from your car dealer all the important documents that are required for registration before you visit the RTO to initiate the registration process. After submitting these documents to the RTO, one needs to fill the form 20. Form 20 is the application for the registration of your car. Along with the application, one has to submit the identity proof, proof of residence, at least 3 photographs, sales tax clearance certificate and No objection certificate (NOC) from RTO and dealer both these certificates are applicable only if a vehicle is bought in one state and registered in another state. it is advisable to have at least to have at least two photocopies of all documents mentioned in the list.
It is to be noted that There are certain fees that must be paid by the applicant in order to successfully register a car with the RTO. Except for the road tax, the charges are pretty standard in different parts of the country. The processing of the documents may take 2 to 3 days sometimes even longer in the RTO. Once the documents are being checked, one can receive the vehicle number from the RTO. If you wish to check your RC application status online you to visit the official site of the government for this, submit your application number there and you will be provided with the RC application status.
Since it is a very important document, one needs to make sure that the registration is done on time. And if you are having more than one vehicle then do check if all your vehicles are registered on your name. If you have purchased a second-hand vehicle, make sure the ownership of the vehicle is transferred and the RC shows your name on it. It is very easy to check your RC status online. For this, the new owner or the old owner just have to visit the official site if the government to know your RC status. Follow the below steps to check your RC status:
- Visit the official site parivahan.gov, in
- Under the “Online Services” tab, you will find an option called “Know your vehicle details”.
- You will now be redirected to another page where you will be allowed to check your RC status.
- You will be asked to enter your vehicle registration number. Please enter the full registration number and click on “Submit”.
- Your RC status will now be displayed online.
