CDS Exam Pattern Details You Might Want to Know
CDS Exam Pattern:
The combined Defense Services Examination or CDS exam is conducted biannually to recruit officers into the armed forces of the country. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the conducting agency along with the Officers Training Academy (OTA). The CDS exam pattern is released much prior to the exam to aid the candidates in a systematic preparation of the exam.

Here are the details of the CDS exam pattern:

Eligibility criteria:
- The candidate must be citizen of India.
- Subjects of Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, Burma, Sri Lanka & various East African Countries are also eligible.
- The candidate must not be less than 19 years of age. The age limit is as on 1st January 2020 should be as follows:
- IMA: 19 years to 24 years
- AFA: 19 years to 23 years
- INA: 19 years to 22 years
- OTA: 19 years to 25 years
- Educational qualification:
- IMA: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is mandatory.
- INA: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology or equivalent is mandatory.
- AFA: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology with Physics and Maths as compulsory subjects is mandatory.
- OTA: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
CDS Exam pattern:
- The CDS exam will be an offline written pen and paper test.
- The exam will consist of multiple choice objective questions.
- The duration of the exam will be 2 hours.
- The total marks of the written test will be 300 marks. The written test for OTA will be of total 200 marks.
- The marking scheme include negative marking for everywrong answer attempted.
- The exam will comprise of questions from English, general knowledge and elementary maths.
