CA Exam Pattern:

Chartered Accountancy (CA) is a much sought after profession for students. The Chartered Accountancy program comprises of the 3 stages which include CA Foundation, CA Intermediate, 3 Years Articleship Training and CA Final. The Indian Chartered Accountants Institute (ICAI) conducts the CA program across India. The CA exam pattern varies for each stage.

Here are the details of the CA exam pattern:

CA program consists of 3 examination:

  • Foundation course: Common Proficiency Test (CPT)
  • Intermediate course: Integrated Professional Competence Course
  • Final exam

Eligibility criteria:

  • A candidate can choose to pursue CA Foundation after passing class 12th or equivalent from a recognized board/ school.
  • A candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree if they want to pursue CA Intermediate through the Direct Entry option.

Exam pattern:

CA Foundation CPT

  • The CPT is an offline pen and paper based examination.
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions.
  • The exam is divided into 4 sections which include the following:
  • Fundamentals of accounting
  • Mercantile laws
  • General economics
  • Quantitative aptitude
  • The total weightage of the examination is 200 marks.
  • The duration of the exam is 4 hours or 240 minutes.
  • The exam is divided into 2 sessions of 2 hours or 120 minutes each.
  • The marking scheme is as follows:
  • Correct answer: +1 marks
  • Incorrect answer: -0.25 marks
  • The medium of the exam is Hindi and English.

  CA Intermediate IPC

  • The CA IPC is an offline pen and paper based test.
  • The exam is subjective/ descriptive in nature.
  • The exam consists of 8 subjects and 2 groups.
  • Candidates can appear in a single group/ both groups at a time.
  • The candidates must secure a minimum of 40% in every subject and an aggregate of 50% in all subjects at one time.
  • The paper will be a mix of both subjective and multiple-choice objective questions according to the new exam pattern.
  • There is no negative marking in the CA IPC paper.
  • The medium of the exam will be Hindi/ English.
