AFCAT Exam Pattern:

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force for recruiting eligible candidates to various branches of the IAF. The AFCAT exam is conducted twice a year for both permanent and short service commission. The AFCAT exam pattern will help interested candidates prepare systematically for the exam.

The AFCAT exam is conducted for recruitment to the following branches of the Indian Air Force:

  • Flying (Short Service Commission only)
  • Ground Duty (Permanent and Short Service Commission)
  • Technical (Permanent and Short Service Commission)

The AFCAT exam is conducted in the months of February and August in online mode. The AFCAT exam is conducted for non-technical candidates while the AFCAT and EKT test is conducted for the technical candidates. The EKT is the Engineering Knowledge Test. 

AFCAT exam pattern:

  • The AFCAT exam is a computer based online examination.
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions (MCQ) .
  • The medium of the exam is English only.
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours or 120 minutes.
  • The exam consists of a total of 100 questions.
  • The total weightage of the exam is 300 marks.
  • The marking scheme is as follows:
  • For Every Correct answer: +3 marks
  • For Every Incorrect answer: – 1 mark will be deducted
  • The exam consists of 4 sections. These include the following:
  • General Awareness
  • Verbal ability in English
  • Numerical ability and reasoning
  • Military aptitude test

  • All candidates have to appear for AFCAT, the candidates who have chosen the technical branch have to appear for the EKT.
  • The EKT is a computer based online test.
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions (MCQ).
  • The duration of the exam is 45 minutes.
  • The total number of questions asked is 50.
  • The total weightage of the EKT is 150 marks.
  • The marking scheme is as follows:
  • For Every Correct answer: +3 marks
  • For Every Incorrect answer: – 1 marks will be deducted
  • The exam consists of 3 sections. These include the following:
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Computer science
  • Electrical and electronics
