The Indian Air Force is one of the major arms of the Indian Defense Forces. The Indian Air Force attracts young boys and girls to join and serve the nation as pilots, technical and ground duty staff. The Air Force Common Admission Test or the AFCAT is conducted by the IAF every year. The AFCAT helps recruit aspiring officers in the three main branches, i.e., Flying, Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-Technical). Here are the details of the AFCAT 2020 exam pattern:

Date of release of notification for AFCAT: 23rd November 2019

Start of registration of application forms: 1st December 2019

Last date to submit completed application: 30th December 2019

Eligibility criteria:

Flying branch:

  • The candidate must have secured a minimum 60% in graduation in any stream/ B.E/ B.Tech.
  • The candidate must have Physics and Maths as compulsory subjects in 12th class.
  • The candidate must have secured a minimum 60% in section A and B of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) examination.
  • The candidate must not be born earlier than  2nd July 1995 and not later than 1st July 1999.

Ground Duty (Technical):

  • The candidate must have secured a minimum 60% in graduation with Physics and Maths.
  • The candidate must have completed an integrated PG program or a 4 year graduate program in Engineering/ Technology.
  • The candidate must have secured 60% marks in the section A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) exam.
  • The candidate must not be born earlier than 2nd July 1993 and later than 1st July 1999.

Ground Duty (Non-Technical):

  • The candidate must not be born earlier than 2nd July 1993 and later than 1st July 1999.
  • The candidate must have secured 60% marks in graduation/ section A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) exam.

AFCAT 2020 exam pattern:

  • The AFCAT exam is a computer based online exam.
  • The exam consists of multiple choice objective questions.
  • The exam is divided into 4 sections, i.e., General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.
  • The exam consists of a total of 100 questions.
  • The maximum marks for the exam is 300.
  • The medium of the exam is English.
  • The marking scheme of the exam is as follows:
  • Correct answer: +3 marks
  • Incorrect answer: -1 marks
  • Unanswered questions: 0 marks.
